“Saltiness” Exhibition Benefits the Sophia Foundation for Children

Anassa’s sister hotel Almyra is named for the saltiness of the sea, and that name provides the inspiration for the exhibition “Saltiness.” Sponsored by Thanos Hotels and Resorts, the exhibition graces the walls of Anassa’s rotunda through 24 July. Curators Nikolas Michael and George Pantazis invited Cypriot photographers to contribute images on the theme, assembling works by twenty-five artists featuring not just the sea, but also people and objects that suggest the flavour and texture of salt. The artists donated their photographs to benefit the Sophia Foundation for Children, a Cypriot charity that focuses on the needs of children suffering from poverty and famine. Proceeds from sales of the photographs will support the foundation’s programmes. As its work is concentrated in the slums of Kenya, the foundation bought whimsical sculptures of animals shaped by Kenyan artisans from recycled flip flops; these works are also offered for sale at the exhibit.
